Controller

Pier Asset Management is seeking a seasoned Controller for its private credit fund.  The Controller will report directly to the CEO and CIO and lead a growing team of junior staff.  The firm currently has one fund and one SMA under management and is in preparation to launch a second fund.

Pier is a team of 6-7 presently and we maintain a light-hearted and jovial atmosphere. Team health and happiness is very important to us. We currently work out of our office on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s, while working from home the rest of the week.

The responsibilities of the Controller will include:

  • Responsible for internal bookkeeping, fund accounting, and fund administration functions for the private funds, managed accounts, and general partnership

  • Review of monthly administrator financial information including NAV packages, account reconciliations, investor capital account reporting, expense reporting and valuation/pricing

  • Liaise with outside vendor relationships, including but not limited to administrator, custodian, financial statement preparers, tax filing preparers, and auditors

  • Responsible for investment operations, cash flow movement, and reporting of the fund (booking and reconciliation, allocations, breaks, and record keeping)

  • Prepare and assist in budget and cash flow forecasts for the operating company

  • Investor Relations

    • Review, sign off, and tracking of investor contract notes and capital statements from administrator

    • Interfacing with investors around any statement or balance related issues

  • Find, research, acquire, customize, and implement asset-class specific accounting system

  • Compliance support to CCO of compliance calendar, blue sky filings, and tracking

  • Manage two offshore support staff regarding all above responsibilities

Qualifications required:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.  Masters would be a plus.  CPA required.  4 years+ of relevant experience in fund accounting at a hedge fund, private equity/credit fund, fund administrator, or public accounting firm.  Experience with credit funds is a preference.  Excellent Excel skills and proficient in Microsoft Office.  Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and complete projects in a dynamic environment.  Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.  Strong communication skills and high degree of flexibility that will enable the individual to work directly with senior people inside and outside the firm.  Ability to operate independently and proactively to manage multiple tasks across the firm and funds.

Compensation is competitive and will be commensurate with work experience and skills.

Investment Analyst

Pier Asset Management LLC is seeking an Investment Analyst who is excited to be part of our growing team and business. Pier is a trusted investment firm based in Los Angeles best known for its expertise in alternative credit. The women led firm manages a top performing hedge fund that invests in real estate, small business, and consumer debt. Pier is growing quickly and at the beginning of building a larger team to support the current growth. You will have the opportunity to show off your skills and grow along with the firm.

The investment analyst supports all deal activity of the fund. The investment analyst will work closely with the portfolio manager to monitor the existing portfolio, as well as analyze new deals.

We are looking for a self starter who can work independently as well as in a team, and is interested in adding and improving upon existing portfolio monitoring and diligence processes.

The responsibilities of the Investment Analyst will include:

  • Create graphs, charts, financial models to support portfolio manager in investment decision making

  • Review portfolio company financial statements

  • Manage deal due diligence tracker

  • Manage deal data room

  • Responsible for investment memo creation for each deal

  • Responsible for case studies as deals progress

Qualifications required:

Applicant should have a BS in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field. 3+ years of prior experience working at a financial institution. Highly proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Strong communication skills that will enable the individual to work directly with senior members of the firm.  Ability to operate independently and manage multiple tasks across the firm and funds.
